Anyways, back to the point of this post...since we've been somewhat quarantined in our apartment everything started to look ugly...so ugly in fact that I went crazy and changed a bit in our living room.
First of all, the hutch.
DISCLAIMER: I didn't get any quality pictures--a lot of them are discolored...bare with me! :)
Before:
(this picture was actually not the ugliest it was when I decided to "redecorate."- this would be considered cute compared to the previous display. I started to change everything around to this then decided it needed a paint job.
After:
(realized once i went to upload this pic that i didn't get a good one of the "after"...fail)
It's black! I love it. I took off all the knobs hoping I could find some cute glass/crystal ones for cheap---if that will ever happen. Still looking. Ok, about the paint.....because the paint can said "paint in an environment that is within 50-90 degrees..." I had to paint in the late night hours of the night. When the girls went down for bed I was off with my head light painting away for two nights. That is something I will remember for the future-- no planning a big painting project in the summer months in AZ....tooo hot for me and paint. It was 10pm and I still had sweat dripping down my forehead.
My favorite part about this was my cubby I made rather than try to fix the drawer Sailor broke (see "before" picture.
So what I did was take the drawer out and removed the metal drawer tracks. At that point it was just a big hole. In the picture below you will see that there is 3 narrow boards nailed into the hutch (2 black and 1 not...I was trying to conserve on my paint :) Essentially I was trying to make a shelf for my MDF board (2 pictures down) which I bought and chopped down to fit into the space.
I got out my scrapbook paper supply and found paper to use and modge podged it to the board. I did a wooden-tile pattern.
I didn't nail it in at all, it just sits right on top of the 3 boards I drilled in and the wooden partition (separating the drawers) that was already build in the hutch....it's hard to explain I am finding out as I type this...oh well (see picture above) :).
Ohh, this beautiful gem...I love my old headboard (that I painted blue). This headboard was out at the shop back home on the farm. It was an old one my grandparents had. It didn't have the rest of the bed so I brought it home around Christmas time and haven't known what to do with it til now. I sawed off the legs and am using it like this for now. It works.
My very favorite part of the living room right now are these BEAUTIFUL pics of my girls. I had lots of particle board laying around and thought I'd chop it down and use for pictures. I got these pics (16x20) printed at Costco for $5.99. I LOVE how they turned out!! I smile every time I glance in the corner of the room.
You probably recognize this table. Sailor's little activity table. This usually stays in the girls' room but the girls have been using it out in the living room the past few weeks, so I decided since I had left over MDF board, I would make another board with colors that match our living room. Brilliant. Now I don't get that itch to take the pretty bright pink table back to the girly room every day. I know, I may be a little anal about minor things.
And this is what my little girls were up to when they weren't laying on the couch watching a show or sleeping.
It's my birthday tomorrow and the girls and Chase's birthday are all in August and July, so my mom sent a big birthday package this week. The girls left the unopened gifts on the floor and jumped in the box! They're so fun. Seryn is walking all over. I wouldn't say she is "officially" a walker quite yet, but she definitely walks now and it's fun to watch her get excited about it.

I LOVE the hutch!! It makes all the difference and it looks so classy too! Great job! I can't wait to see it in person! Sorry you guys were suck, what a complete bummer :(
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking you could pull off your own show on HGTV. It's one thing to sit around thinking things need to be changed, but a whole other to actually do it. So creative!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above posts! Great job and kudos for actually doing something about what's bugging you!
ReplyDeleteOh miserable Arizona- But it led to some good! That hutch looks awesome, and good idea with the broken drawer. All your new additions look great!
ReplyDeleteyay!! I found your blog too! And ummm.... HOLY CRAFT! That thing is AWESOME and I also particularly love the cubby and the headboard! Love it! Oh, and your pics of your fam below are outstanding!
